Established on December 19, 2008 the Santee Riverkeeper Alliance is a citizen-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to defending the Waterbodys in the Santee River Basin from pollution, while protecting the public's right to clean water.

The Santee Riverkeeper's Alliance's mission is to promote respect, protect and improve the Santee River, Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie through education, advocacy and action. Goals include creating clean and healthy river and lakes that sustain life and is treasured by its people. To achieve this vision, we seek to accomplish the following objectives: sustain a RIVERKEEPER® program, measurably improve water quality, reestablish native bio-diversity, bring legal action to enforce state and federal environmental laws, and teach and practice a "water ethic" of ecological respect to all ages.
